"Education & Travel/ Phung, Phuong & Phuong/ Terry"

Some people think that children should be encouraged to travel more while at school to broaden their experience. Others think that not enough time is spent in the classroom learning the basics of a good education.

Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

Education is a necessary service for society which requires the government to invest a lot in it. For a long time, learning has been the best way to succeed and enhance skills. People have many methods to gain knowledge, not only at school, but also in real life. In many countries around the world, especially countries which have developed education systems, people focus more on practice than theory. Some people argue that studying at school provides enough knowledge for students but the opponents think that children should go out to explore the real world. I can see both sides of this issue. To my mind, school and real life are essential and students ought to integrate both of them to get a good overall mind set of the world.

School is the first place which helps people to build solid foundations for their lives. Indeed, if children participate in school, they will get directions from teachers to gain knowledge by efficient methods. Schools have an established curriculum and teachers provide important lessons for pupils every day. Although the environment in school is limited to a small scale, students are protected and avoid bad lifestyles such as violence, smoking and drinking beer or alcohol. Besides that, schools positively educate the character, ethics and behavior of children. Hence, their parents do not worry about them too much. Furthermore, joining in a school helps to save time and money because students do not need to select vital and accurate information among the huge sources.

Alternatively, children ought to have longer summer vacations to travel or get a part time jobs which help them to improve fundamental skills. They potentially can adapt to a university environment later and prepare well for their careers in the future. For instance, if students get a temporary job during their holiday, they will deal with real and challenging situations in the work place. The knock-on effects from this are enhancing flexible abilities, maturity and self-confidence. In addition, learning more about different cultures and values as part of the concept of travel expands the mind. In fact, traveling broadens the mind for younger people who are willing to remain open, accepting of change and cultural differences. Lastly, finding it easier to understand and interact with people from different back grounds and cultures is another benefit when studying through travel experiences, because the environment is more fascinating and comfortable.

To sum up, the government should provide some policies to improve the education system and balance between theory and life skills which are very significant because these will influence the whole of the rest of their lives. While there are strong arguments on both sides of the case, in my perspective, I prefer exploring real life which equips me with essential skills in life as opposed to only attending an institution.
