Task2 - Health >> Genetically Modified Food & GMO's-Genetically Modified Organisms

"Genetically Modified Food & GMO's-Genetically Modified Organisms "

Many people feel that biotech crops offer more advantages than disadvantages. Others however feel it is too early to promote their use.

Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Agriculture has been revolutionized in recent years, so more farmers are applying technology to their crops in order to increase yield. As a consequence, this has contributed to the introduction of GMO'S. Yet, there remains some dissent as to whether the overall effects of genetically modified foods have been positive or negative. While some people contend that the benefits of GM food far outweigh its drawbacks, there are certainly valid arguments to the contrary. In this essay, I intend to explore both sides of using GMO'S as well as give my opinion on this issue.

On the one hand, people feel anxious when they use GM foods because nobody can predict their impact on mankind. It might be harmful to the human body and cause many diseases that are unprecedented. Also, in spite of the fact that GMO'S taste better than natural foods, people do not know the origin of the ingredients in them; indeed, biotech crops are artificial in comparison with traditional crops. As some foreign manufacturers resist labeling, some, especially vegetarians, keep away from GM foods since they worry about techniques such as inserting animal genes into plants.

On the other hand, a convincing argument can be made about GM foods not only playing pivotal role in meeting the demand for food but also in protecting the ecosystem. It is an irrefutable fact that many countries around the world have to face the challenge of a population explosion and, as a result of that; governments cannot supply a sufficient quantity of food for their citizens. That is the main reason to explain why more people are starving than ever before. In order to tackle this issue, GM foods have been developed because they help to reduce the time needed and increase the quantity of crops harvested. In addition, it is an undeniable fact that GM foods do not use pesticides and insecticides as traditional crops do, so the environment will be protected.

In my personal view, GM food should be used although people should focus on the cotents of the foods that they are going to eat. This means people have to learn more about how and where their food is grown.

Comment from ITP

Some great language to introduce and support argument: convincing arguments, valid arguments, irrefutable fact, undeniable fact.
