Task2 - Lifestyle >> Hard Work vs Other Factors

"Hard Work vs Other Factors"

Some people believe that hard work and determination are the key to success in life. However, others argue that other factors are more important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Our world is driven increasingly by fierce competition as more people yearn for worldly success. Edison claimed that 'genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration' but is this entirely true of the real world we inhabit? In the following essay, I will discuss the impact of human perseverance on attaining one's goals.

Hard work is undoubtedly instrumental to success in every challenging area of life. Take education for example: anyone who has achieved a certain degree of academic success would emphasize the importance of determination when approaching your academic objectives in life. This is mostly because students need to study an enormous body of knowledge which has been produced and documented by generations of scholars before them. Added to this, there is the incredible speed at which information is being generated and distributed across the globe. This heightened information generation makes it even harder to be aware of any cutting-edge knowledge available for a given field.

On the other hand, rote- learning and reproducing other people's findings rarely leads to success. To continue using the example of academia, for a scholar to achieve recognition, he/she would have to introduce innovative ideas, or to 'push back the frontiers of human ignorance'. This inspiration for innovation is said to come at unexpected moments, such as when a person is asleep or when they are engaged in a totally unrelated activity. These moments of brilliance may not necessarily involve hard work.

In conclusion, I would maintain that success arises from a varying combination of hard work and talent. Either one of these factors on its own would bear little or no fruit at all.
